Blak Royalty
In this series, I delve into the relationship between European royalty and Aboriginal culture. It is a painful exploration, as European colonisers took away so much from the Aboriginal people. They took their land, their culture, and even their lives. The consequences of these actions still reverberate today.
These works aim to reclaim what was stolen from my people. They take the symbols of regalia, closely associated with royalty, which were once wielded as tools of colonialism, and transform them into something that is uniquely ours.
I want to take a moment to acknowledge the lives that were lost, the land that was taken, the sky that was violated, the animals that were disrupted, and the stories that were silenced.
