Cluster of Gems, uses traditional weaving techniques to create intricate, gem like configurations that challenge perceptions of wealth and power. The gems reference the opulence of colonial wealth, symbolised through their radiant, clustered forms. The series includes both wall-mounted brooches and wearable brooches, drawing attention to the way wealth and power can surround us or be worn as a display. By blending traditional weaving with the visual language of precious gemstones, Cluster of Gems provokes a dialogue about the historical and ongoing implications of colonialism, while simultaneously celebrating cultural resilience and artistry.
